Custom Backlit 3D Illuminated Stainless Metal Acrylic LED Letter
The spacing between letter and wall determines how good it looks. Most installers use one to two inches. Too close and the glow gets pinched. Too far and it washes out everywhere. If spacing isn't consistent across the whole letter back, you'll see bright patches and dim spots that look terrible. Your wall does half the work here - smooth painted surfaces reflect evenly for nice halos, while damaged or textured walls create uneven lighting. Budget for wall repairs before installation if your surface has problems.
During the day you see metal letter shapes against your building. At night the halo makes them visible, though not as bright as frontlit options. This works on quiet streets, shopping plazas, or building entrances where customers have time to notice. Highways and busy areas with lots of competing lights? The subtle glow gets lost. You need more punch in those locations.
Good ones use thick aluminum that holds its shape - around 0.080 inches. Thin metal warps over time, changes the spacing, and ruins the halo effect. Powder coating protects against weather and comes in different colors. Commercial-grade LEDs last 100,000+ hours, maybe ten to fifteen years of nightly use. The letters need ventilation so heat doesn't build up and shorten LED life or create hot spots.
You can't judge quality until you see them lit at night. Well-made signs produce even halos all around each letter with smooth, consistent brightness. Cheap ones show bright spots where LEDs cluster, dark areas with poor coverage, and uneven glow where thin aluminum has warped. Daytime inspection or construction photos don't tell you much.
Face finishes affect daytime appearance. Brushed aluminum looks modern and hides fingerprints better than polished metal. Painted faces match your brand colors - darker colors create stronger contrast with white halos at night. Powder-coated finishes add texture options and durability. Most people use white LEDs because they're versatile. Warm white gives softer glow for restaurants and hospitality. Cool white looks crisper for professional offices. Colored halos are possible but limit you if you rebrand later.
